Fanning

I think I've become addicted to fanning. I noticed a line in the s1220 manual about fanning photos, so I started to do it.

Static. I thought the action of fanning was to reduce static electricity and stop misfeeds in photocopiers and laser printers, thereby reducing jams. But I've noticed that as I stand up fanning through handfuls of old photos quite a lot of dust and debris falls out. That stuff would otherwise be running through my Kodak scanner. In my view any single fleck of paper or bit of ancient sandwich that doesn't go near my s1220 is a major blessing.

So I'm fanning while I'm scanning. Try it.

Anti-static Wipes

After about 10 photos scanned on your s1220 you'll understand the importance of keeping the scanning windows clean. Since we got our first unit Kodak have updated the manual to stress how important this is. The main problem we've had is the appearance of single pixel wide streak in the direction that the photos pass through the scanner.

Several methods of cleaning the scanner have been tried mainly influenced by the way we clean the glass in the Epson flatbed scanner. So far we haven't really found anything that has worked well. Then I noticed that Kodak are recommending cleaning wipes from Brillianize (who are at brillianize.com) and I thought I'd give those a try.

First disappointment was that Brillianize don't have an outlet here in the UK, but thanks to their online enquiry screen I made contact with one of their support people who took an order online. Last saturday a parcel arrived shipped by air from Benicia, California. So this week we've been using the double sachets to clean the scanner. I won't say it has completely solved the problem, but the incidence of streaking is very much reduced. And there's enough liquid in the wet half of the packet to clean the Epson as well. So, thumbs up for Brillianize wipes.

Kodak s1220 Users Unite

My name is Jeff Underwood and I run a photo scanning business, www.1scan.co.uk - we scan a wide variety of material but by far the greatest number of images we produce are generated by our Kodak s1220 photo scanner.

I love this unit, but ....

Well, if you own or use an s1220 you'll know what I mean. So what I'd like to do is make contact with other Kodak s1220 users to share experiences, hints and tips.

If you are responsible for the care, feeding, nourishing or just admire this Kodak scanner from afar - just make contact.
